Conférence : Novel sequencing technologies and their impact on marine ecology and biotechnology

Le 27 Novembre à 18h00, lors d'une conférence dans l'amphithéâtre 400 de l'UNC, le Dr. Jörn Kalinowski présentera, en anglais, "Novel sequencing technologies and their impact on marine ecology and biotechnology".

Résumé

DNA sequencing with “next-generation” technologies has led to paradigm shifts in medicine and in the life sciences recently.
The presentation will explain the recent advances in sequencing technology and advanced in data analysis, with the aim in understanding biological systems, single organisms as well as communities and ecosystems.

Furthermore, different applications in marine sciences will be presented, ranging von genomics of marine microrganisms, meta-genomics of corals, sponges, or viruses, as well as investigations concerning pollution by microplastics in the oceans.

The questions we worked on range from biotechnological applications to ecological problems, and in all cases next-generation sequencing provided first and unique insights into single organisms and communities.
